Who we are: We are a rag tag group dogs and one passionate musher, located in the city of Madison, WI. Having only three dogs, I borrow some from family and friends to run in the 4 dog sled class when racing (as well as training). I also love skijoring (where dogs pull you on cross country skis) and bikejoring (where dogs pull you on a mountain bike as you pedal, which is done in the fall and spring)!
Big news: With a lot of hard work and training this past race season (2014-2015) my dogs Eli and Etan earned us an ISDRA (International Sled Dog Racing Association) Gold Medal for the 2 dog bikejor racing class! This was an incredible accomplishment and honor for us. It was amazing to see our hard work pay off.
Kennel Name: Our name "Kandu" comes from our philosophy - can do! There are many challenges to running sled dogs, but in the end it comes down to attitude. I believe if you are not having fun, you are doing something wrong. Mushing is a sport of passion and love - for the dogs, for nature, and for the shear challenge of working as a K9/human team. There is nothing better and when you approach it with a "can do" attitude, anything is possible!
Goals: Always keep the focus on my dogs being safe, happy, and well cared for. My dogs are my friends and my life. I try to always do right by them. Be a kind and courteous person when racing, training, in everyday life. I believe what we do, how we treat people, and what kind of person we try to be matters. I try to not loose focus on that - especially when focusing intensely on all the other things I want to accomplish. When it comes to racing sled dogs - I want us to be the best we can be! That means training, conditioning, and practice. It means me keeping my energy and attitude positive when interacting with the dogs. It means planning out what we will do and how we will do it. I want us to do well this next racing season, and we are going to put in the time to do so! This includes myself - I have got to put in the time to be fit, healthy, and practice my handling skills on the bike/sled/skis. But at the end of the day, no matter how we do, I am proud of and love my canine companions.
